I just had a holiday in Tassie, which I hadn't worked out was finishing as the Targa Tasmania was starting, otherwise I'd have pushed it back a week. But anyway, I guess not many of you made it over so I thought I'd share some pics. Stumbling across the Longford Revival Festival was a highlight. I probably should reduce the size of these pics, but I can't be arsed/am too excited about it. Here we go:

Early indications as I was at the hotel, an early starter was this 308GT4 in the car park. I've a real soft spot for these:

Having left Launceston and gone down to Hobart for a couple of days, I have to return my hire car (details outlined in another, slightly controversial thread), I return to find this; 911 Turbo, Shelby Daytona Coupe eek , XK150, E-Type+2, Austin-Healey 3000, lined up outside, before moving to the car park where I discover the hardcore rally 308GTB:

More of the same

At this point I've realised that it's definitely in my interests to downsize the pics, what with my crap connection n'that:

A non-caged replica, but nonetheless, beasty:

Carrera GT on the flying mile, I believe this was Walter Rohrl:

The aforepictured 308GT4:

Only the bloody Moby Dick, in a bloody small isle off the arse end of a bloody country of 50 people...!

And it's crazy arse:

Only the 962!:

And it's arse:

Another Rohrl, Sebring winning car, a 718:

Allegedly the only RHD Ford GT in existence:

Alan Moffat's 'stang:

A Group C Merc of some description. I thought I'd taken video of this, as they started it and pushed it out running - the noise was awesome. My camera disagrees:

Some of you may have seen Peter Brock at Goodwood in this in '06:

I can't recall what this was in, but I think a GT40 of some description:

GT3 Viper. I'm an arse man...

Common or garden Porsches:

Ex-Jim Clark Lotus 39

Goggomobil:

More to come, this has taken me ages with my crap connection and I'm scared of losing it.

Transam, Firebird, XA GT and Thunderbird:

928. You'll notice a recurring Porsche theme in this thread, because I love them, but also I'm keen on getting a manual 928:

John Goss (?) special edition XB Coupe:

Quattro (very rare here), Jensen-Healey, and XA Ford Falcon GT RPO83 (unbelievably rare):

RPO83:

Boosted NSX:

Holden Torana SS:

XB GT Coupe and Testarossa:

Monstrous Ford Galaxie 500:

Nice tits:

Murci:

Eddie Cheever's F1 car:

Bizzarini (sp?):

Dubious styling yet hardcore R8:

RSR:

Lovely, clean unspoilered, so I guess non-Sport Carrera 3.2:

More 928:

Carrera 3.0:

Hardcore extended swingarm GSXR thang:

Not quite sure this is the only RHD Ford GT in existence. Mainly because you can clearly see the steering wheel on the left side of the car...

It appears that way doesn't it? But it's not.

Very nice.

Thought they weren't allowed to mod cars in OZ...or is that NZ?

It's far from that simple, obviously the legislation has got tighter over the years and can't be invoked retrospectively, so we still see a lot of modified older stuff. LHD for cars <25 years old is illegal in all states except WA, so for example the Carrera GT would be illegal. It's a sliding scale and varies from state to state.
I understand NZ is a lot easier going, but still relative to the UK, draconian.

ETA: you'll also notice a lot of the number plates start 'SI' which is 'Special Interest' - this is like 'club rego' for historic cars. The rules are a lot more slack for these, but the vehicles can only be used on the road for events such as club meets/shows/going between stages.

Don't know the details, but as above to be legal here it has to be RHD. The pic tricks you, if you look carefully what appears to be the steering wheel couldn't be in that position, it's most likely a bag strap or something. It's definitely RHD.

Hmm maybe the 'only' statement was a bit outdated... or even a lie maybe as it seems the only one use to be black.
