hi guy's im looking from some advice if anyone has ever registered a track/race bike, which was purchased with no V5, its a bit of a hot topic at the moment with what happened at brands race meeting.

so far i think i need the following to register my R1:

1. some how hpi check the bike from the Vin/frame number to see if it was ever registered and a registration applied, if it has a registration should be apply to apply for a new log book??, also is it possible to run a hpi on the engine number? i do know the engine has been changed in my track bike.
2. failling above try get get a certificate of conformoty from Yahama (very doubtfull on this one)
3. if no frame number present im not sure if possible to SVA or get some other test?
4. if can get above then mot the bike
5. fill out a V55/5 form if have all the above in place

it seams like its a bit of a mine field, and could open up infomation about your bike that maybe you dont want to know if frame or engine are stolen/written off, but i would like to get a V5 so have more proof of ownership and even daytime mot the bike

any help would be great

cheers andy

Its highly unlikely it has a V5, if it did you'd have paid accordingly as everyone knows from BEMSEE to New Era that a bike or frame at least with a V5 is worth more money and the change hands accordingly.

A bike with a changed engine and potentially no frame number in place, I'd be dubious and in all honesty far happier if DVLA didn't issue a V5 for it.

Its probably been registered so your best bet is to try and find out the reg no applicable to the frame. Engines are seen as a changeable component and as such I wouldn't bother trying to trace or register to that.

If its never been registered then you would have to register it as new and it would have to comply with all current emissions legislations I believe (never going to happen if its more than a year or two old).

You missed off the easiest option of buying another frame with a V5.

What year is the bike and does it have a frame number or not? Your statement seem to suggest you don't know.

Your local, friendly bike dealer can hpi it for you on the frame number . . . if that comes out clear then apply to dvla for registration.

i have got the frame number from the bike now so will try and ring round tomorrow see if anyone can tell me anything about it

the bike is a 2005 r1 but was build by pete beale for the previous owner from a race frame, it had been strengthened and powdercoated so i have scraped back the powdercoat tonight and it does have a 17 digit vin number, so thats one positive

just need to see if anyone can now do a trace on the vin number
