Pic Of The Week: Corvette C6.R
It's not all diesels at Le Mans...
Le Mans these days might be dominated by dull-sounding turbodiesels, but a picture we spotted while trawling for images of last weekend's Le Mans test has lifted the hearts of PH HQ's fans of noisy racing cars.
The GT1 class might be absent from Le Mans this year, to be (in part) replaced by the new GTE spec, but the good ol' Corvette C6 will still be present, in all its V8 glory.
We don't know for sure whether the cars will still sound as good as the old GT1 contenders - which sounded as though they were ripping a hole in the fabric of the universe - but it's hard to imagine the Yankee muscle cars sounding anything other than brilliant
Here's hoping that Detroit's finest hasn't lost its aural edge...

any word on the car/driver combination?

The Larbre Competition car in the picture is chassis C6.RGT-001 last years Corvette Racing #63 car that ran at Le Mans. The Corvette Racing #73 & #74 cars could not be at the test having raced only last week at Long Beach in California so the Corvette Racing drivers Tommy Milner, Oliver Gavin and Jan Magnussen were on driving duties for the Le Mans test last weekend. Looking at the helmet I think it was Tommy Milner in the car at the time of the pic.CK
- 73 will be driven by Olivier Beretta, Tommy Milner and Antonio Garcia
- 74 will be driven by Oliver Gavin, Jan Magnussen and Richard Westbrook
- 50 will be driven by Patrick Bornhauser, Julien Canal and Gabriel Gardel
The #73 will be the chassis (C6GT-003) and the #74 (C6GT-004)
All three Corvettes now use paddle shift gearboxes and have been on a diet over the winter. For example the wiring on the car is now a full 15kgs lighter than last year!
