7Min 27.56Secs For GT-R At The Ring

Nissan knocks a second and a half off GT-R lap time - more to come today?

Nissan has returned to the Nurburgring with the 2010 GT-R and chief test driver Toshio Suzuka to continue its assault on the volume production car record.

According to a Nissan press release issued yesterday, the test team has clocked up a 7:27.56 lap with a Japanese spec GT-R running optional V-Spec RAYS forged alloy wheels and Dunlop tyres.

Although this is significantly faster than the GT-R's previous record, the team will continue to press home its attack today – if conditions are right - under the direction of Nissan's GT-R engineering chief Kazutoshi Mizuno.

Apparently yesterday's time was set in dry conditions, but the track had a coating of dust and sand that is said to have reduced the available grip in some places.

Although the team is celebrating a new GT-R record, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has previously claimed a 7:26.4 lap time in production trim – so Nissan's quest for extra pace continues.

Get it off your chest...
