Javelin Trackdays has regrettably had to cancel its event at Oakington Airfield on Sunday 16 October on the advice of the Bomb Squad.
An archeological dig on the venue recently unearthed a number of unstable WW2 bombs which resulted in the surrounding villages being evacuated whilst controlled explosions were carried out. These were reportedly heard over 20 miles away.
A spokesman said: "The presence of further munitions cannot be ruled out until a full survey of the airfield is carried out which will take about three weeks."
Colin Jebson at Javelin said: "This is a shame as we had attracted a reasonable entry who were all looking forward to this first event at the venue for some time. We obviously have to play safe in situations such as this and will be rescheduling once we have the all-clear from the Army."
He added with tongue in cheek: "I was quite looking forward to conducting the safety briefing with the visual aids of bomb craters to demonstrate the perils of leaving the tarmac."
