The Lotus-on-Track Elise Trophy is being launched in 2007 in conjunction with MSVR, the competition arm of Motor Sport Vision.
Members of Lotus-on-Track, which described itself as "the UK’s largest track day club", have been invited to join a newly formed MSA affiliated division of the club - LoTRDC.
LoTRDC aims to provide a friendly, safe and financially viable series for those wishing to progress from track days to racing.
The series is open by invitation to like minded Lotus-on-Track members that own Elises or Elise derivatives such as the Exige, 340R, or VX220. Each round of the series will consist of two races, one of which will be straight class race, the other an exciting handicapped race based on the results of the first race.
The provisional calendar for 2007 has races at circuits including Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Oulton Park, Donington Park, Castle Combe, Snetterton and Spa Francorchamps.
There are currently only a handful of Elises racing on the same grid in the UK. In 2007 LoTR reckons it can guarantee a number of full grids with over 40 entrants accepted to date, and strong interest from over 50 more.
The level of interest in the series was demonstrated at Race Car Live at Brands Hatch on Sunday 29 October, when over 200 Lotuses turned up with just one week's notice. Also over 300 Lotuses turned up at a track day on a wet Monday evening in June, when the series was launched.
At Race Car Live there was also great interest from the public, as well as from people involved in other series, and the LoTRDC garages were busy all day, with several cars which will be racing next year giving passenger laps.
LoTRDC aims to involve the Lotus community, both in the UK and abroad, throughout the series, and hope that over 1,000 Lotuses will attend the opening round in March.
Yokohama is the official tyre sponsor for 2007, and a number of other well known companies in the Lotus/Motorsport community have been quick to take some of the available sponsorship opportunities.
