'Just don't tell Ferrari, all right?'
The Italian Carabinieri have just taken on a pair of Lotus Evora S models. The cars will undertake a two-year 'tour of duty' with the division of the Italian army (which plays a similar role in Italy to Scotland Yard in the UK), working in and around Rome and Milan.
According to the Lotus press release, Colonel Marco Minicucci of the Carabinieri said: "Our special Lotus Evoras combine the very best of our technology with excellent British engineering from Lotus."
They've also been equipped with trick voice recognition technology and a portable refrigeration compartment has been fitted behind the front seats, which will allow for the rapid transport of vital organs and blood required during medical emergencies.
We suppose it's quite a coup, really, as it's not as though the Italians don't have a few fast car manufacturers on their own doorsteps...
(And would it be cruel of us to suggest that Lotus needs to do everything it can to get Evoras out the door?)
