rob.e's  Lotus  Esprit V8-GT   (1998)
Last updated: Wednesday 26th September 2007

Bought for £33,000 in March 2001 at 35,000 miles. Sold for £18,495 at 83,000 miles.

Traded my 1998 Esprit GT3 for this car at Nick Whale Sportscars in March 2001. It has fixed back lightweight seats in black/silver alcantara. Seat backs are colour coded to the body colour.

Did have some OZ Racing 'Crono Magnesio' 5- spoke magnesium alloys, however these had been replaced with some of the latest specification OZ Nova wheels as fitted to the last edition esprit. Now have some OZ Saturns painted titanium.

Tried several different exhaust systems, current running straight pipes from Chris Neils. Cheap, simple and light.

The car also has Sport350 ecu, ITG Foam Filters, 295 section rear tyres (Sport350 size, rather than stock V8-GT 285's), colour coded rear number plate plinth like a 2000 model year car, Pioneer dash speaker upgrade, alpine cd changer, clear side repeaters lenses, clear front indicator lenses (reproglas).

I ran my brembo brakes with various types of pad: Porterfield R4s Pads, PAGID RS-14 etc with differing levels of success..

Now have AP racing calipers with 320x32mm discs ie Sport 350 spec. I've run these with Porterfield R4s, Ferodo DS2500 and now with stock factory pads which are actually very good.

2004 spec Lotus Bilstein/Eibach adjustable suspension. Same as fitted to last 33 cars off the production line.

N.B. ANYONE LOOKING AT THE RUNNING COSTS PLEASE BEAR IN MIND:

- for several years this was my ONLY means of transport, used in all weathers clocking up 20k miles in the first year etc

- all the costs are MAIN DEALER prices, if you can do some work yourself or you go to a specialist then prices will be less

- i spend MORE than is actually needed to keep the car on the road, e.g. brakes, wheels, tyres, suspension are in most cases upgrades rather than being a cost of running the car.

If you're running an esprit as a low mileage good weather second car, doing some maintenance yourself maybe, and you're happy to stay with the standard spec then you will not spend anywhere near as much as i have

Any questions on V8 ownership feel free to mail me via my profile.

cheers
Rob
