Well after not haveing the steering rack for 4 weeks it finally arrived this week. So now back on and its fantastic again....no grinding when turning left now and no minor play. Apparently it took longer than espected to re furb as something was grinding on the casing and had to be re-bored. Can really appreciate the set up by Gugliemis now. Also while out I por 15'd to some of the un tidy parts for the chassis. If i had know it was gonna be 4 weeks i would have done a lot more. Also changed the coolant pipes to the ACT stainless ones ( £45). If you havent done this to yours I would recommended it after seeing the crap and the state of the inside of my old ones.

Wet Homage to Le Mans with team Peach Melba. The Rain coulndt and wont Ruin a Le Mans EVER although sunday was a bit of a washout. Car ran well apart from some hesitation when it Pissed down on the way down, nor sure why it hasn't done that. was ok afterwards mind. Also after the recent brake upgrade i lost fluid, it must have been a slow leak as it wasn't till about 0200 when parked up at Arnage and returned to find I had no Brakes. So Sunday morning was spent sorting that out. The Brake line fittings i had weren't fiting correct and hence where leaking on each brake compression. All sorted now with Banjo joints. Must thank Johno for helping me and Barreti's Steering out nice one mate |

Rolling Road with Mark Adams and Paul at Austecs. Well i thought the car was purring pretty well...how wrong was I. Turned out some/most of my injectors where shagged.Hd them cleaned as couldnt afford the better bosch ones. Before the re-map it was pulling 214bhp @ the wheel After 235 @ the wheel which is 276bhp and 315lbs at the flywheel. Teh whole rev range is tons better and smoother and it really does pull so much better now. Well worth it and would recommend anyone else to get it done as there must be many a TVr that is down on power and the owner doesnt realise it. Mark Adams and Paul where great explaining everything to me ( the Engine Numpty ). Mananged to spend time with MA while injectors where being cleaned and Paul was off doing other stuff. We done a tour of what was in the Garage inside and out(including a REAL AC Cobra) and I learnt many things from him. Thanks Mark and Paul.

Had it up on the jacks to hammerite and waxoyle. Must admit the was suprised on how good a condition it is in. When I had the S3 at 8 years old I had to strip most of the old plastic covering off and re-hammerite. The Banana is 8 years old now. Didnt need to hammerite much and waxoyled it all over. Noteable difference in being able to get the waxoyle probe alond the top of the side rails,on the S this was near on immposible and very tricky as the body seemed that much tighter to it. I also dont need to wear a riancoat for the rest of the winter as I am covered in the bloody stuff. |

Come to the conclusion after quite a bit of testing that the starter is on its way out again(sticking). It had lasted 14 months and has started sticking moore often. So after speaking to 5ltr-chim after seeing this thread he recommend the Starter that he had sourced from www.brookwell.co.uk/acatalog/Range_Rover_Classic.html at £ 50 + Vat. thats less than a reconned one. Its made by Prestolite Electrics who are a renowed South African Company. Have seen the same one in other dealers for over £120. After talking to my local LR dealer a while back I was told they had stopped making the older larger one so I gather this is the replacement. It Spins a lot quicker than the older one which is a bit wierd as it sound so high pitched before the Engine fires in its Burbling Roar.

Aquired from www.mod-wise.com the new revised Glovebox locking system. Trialled it for David and must say its an excellent bit of kit. A locking mechanism is put in the glove box with LED aswell. A push switch is put where that loft latch goes that always breaks that activates the locking mechanism. also a switch is fitted to the door locks so as the Glove box is locked when the Car is. I also brought The Bonnet stay. This fits to the cross bar on the underside of the bonnet and then to where you put the old stay into. It's a Telescopic one and works excellently and supports the Bonnet alot better than the old flimsy one as before. Some top stuff fom David Beer that i would highly recommend.

Brought 2nd hand unused starter motor from Geary on www.eliseparts.com who had a load of Griffith parts from a Project he wouldnt be starting.Good to see his 4wheel drive 500bhp Griffith though. Changed it tonite hoping this will cure the non starting when hot problem even though it was still doing this only occasionally but a pain when it did. Will get the other starter re-coned and probably keep at as a spare. After putting the Griffith on the ramps though the Handbrake has decided not to work and a bolt has dropped out from some where in the mech but coulndt really see wher from .will investigate later in week.

Picked up Rad and was shown the right bodge that had been done when it had been re-cored. The end tank had been cut and bent under and welded and also the pipe as said before.Welds all over the place. Was told i would allways have trouble with that if i hadnt of had it changed to the original one. Anyhow refitted in alot easier than the taking out and took it for a blast and all seems ok.

Took Radiator off to pressure testeg as have an annoying leak coming from somewhere. Took it to Kempston Radiators in Bedford who surprissingly reconised it as TVR Rad straight off. They said the fins look ok but where an aold outlet pipe had a been and a plate welded over the old hole looked like it was leaking there.Pik it up on Tuesday Prob. |

Yep as thought that Earthing bolt had come loose again(lasted 4mnths ish). Its the one that bolts the body to the chassis and is situated right under the Rad and i had to cut a slot in thre GRP underneath it as couldnt get a socket in from the front as Lip on Rad in the way. So slot is used with an open ended spanner. |

Recieved the carbon last friday(24). Since then i Have taken the old dash out and used as atemplate for the carbon one. I cut the carbon out using a sroll saw which was just the job.For the dials, which i was having a dilemma about i used a ceramic tile cutter that cuts circles from 10mm - 100mm (after testing first of course). The veneer was taken off the metal backing which wasnt to hard as i think there was aglue shortage when they put the venner on originaly. After this a filed ,wire brushed and then degreased it and i am now at the stage where i have glued the carbon to the steel backing. This is held together with numerous pieces of wood and a couple of thousand g-clamps. ceramic tile cutter £12.99 from screfix that fits in an hand drill £5.99 Minatur Files of assorted shapes for finishing off.

Just ordered some carbon fibre from a company called www.fibre-lyte.co.uk Its 900mm x 300mm and 1.4mm thick. Its called CSC which means it has a glass fibre core sandwiched between two layers of carbon. Hopefully will use the old metal backing as a template for cutting it to shape and then fix it to this after i have removed the flacking veneer.

Thursday 4th April 2002 |
Found the loose connection that was causing all my flickering lights/fuel gauge problems. It was a loose bolt at the front of the chassis that also holds the body work on. It was right behind the rad and couldnt get a socket to it, so had to cut a slot through the grp just below the nut about 2inches long and 1/4 inch wide to get a open ended spanner through to the bolt. Problem solved |
