Porsche 981 Boxster Spyder
: "If I could only have one car it would be this - to my eyes the styling is just sublime, combining aggression with beauty. It's obviously a convertible too; having discovered convertibles late on in life I would not be without one now! So this Spyder pretty much ticks all my boxes and probably provides 95 per cent of the GT4 experience for less money. If I could have fit it in I would probably get a Sapphire Blue one but Guards Red looks stunning don't you think? RWD done!"
Renaultsport Megane Cup
Cost: £10,495
Balance: £10,510
Why I chose it: "It's time to fess up: I totally didn't get the fuss over the RS Megane and when one of my relatives bought one I have to admit to being quite snobbish about it - sorry! I thought the interior was naff and the styling ordinary, so why was everyone raving about it? Roll on a few years and a colleague bought a facelift Trophy and we went out for a spirited drive - what a fool I had been! I was smitten, to the extent I nearly ordered a new one (long story and I'm an idiot because I bought an Audi TT instead!). Whilst nearly buying that Trophy 275 I realised that here was a car that could cope with the practicality I needed but had the ability to turn into a beast at the drop of a hat. Liquid Yellow is the perfect colour too, so if I had to have one affordable car I think the Megane RS would be it (although I'd want a facelift one). FWD ticked!" [Unfortunately the Liquid yellow example was sold so it has been replaced with this red Cup - N.A]
Skoda Yeti 4x4
"?Of all the cars this is the easiest choice - the Yeti! Having owned one for three years I love the way the car looks and just goes about the daily grind with absolutely no fuss. It isn't pretentious, it is well put together and totally classless - just a simple, brilliant product that I'd have no hesitation in recommending to anyone. Obviously if I could afford it the only car I'd replace a Yeti with is a Discovery but then I'd blow the budget! The change can go towards a mountain bike!"
