The awards
|
The first PistonHeads awards - aka BTaP 2002 - went with a bang this weekend
as 120 members of PistonHeads descended on the Marriott Hotel in Swindon for the
petrol party of the year.
Racing driver Calum Lockie joined in the festivities with tales of the track
and helping to draw the raffle prizes. A huge array of prizes was donated by
both companies and individuals. The generosity of the guests was equally evident
with over £900 being raised for Cancer Research. Prizes included vast amounts
of alcohol, a Scalextric set and a number of driving experiences.
The awards ceremony was equally popular with trophies being handed out in
eight categories.
The winners for 2002 were:
- Customer Care Award: David Batty, The Garage, Compton
- Soapbox Award: CarZee
- UB40 Award for timewasting: M@H
- Entertainer Award: Flasher & Benno
- PistonHeads meet of the Year: Nubbin (for Chatsworth gathering)
- PistonHeads Fellowship Award: McNab (read his acceptance speech here)
- Most Helpful Member Award: MadCop
- PIE award (PistonHeads award for Initiative and Enterprise):
Domster
The day was a huge success with festivities kicking off during the afternoon
with the rain curtailing the tyre kicking session - despite a stunning selection
of sportscars in the car park - and ensuring the bar got some early business.
After donning their monkey suits and frocks the main event kicked off again
in the private bar at 7pm with dinner at 8pm. After speeches, raffles and prizes
the band came on and rocked the place until after 1am when the hotel bar was
once again invaded by drunken petrolheads. The final evacuation occured sometime
around 5am!
It's set to become a regular feature of the PistonHeads calendar and an even
bigger venue will be sought for BTaP 2003!
