What tenuous excuse can you find to buy a crap number plate?

At first glance it looks easy to decipher why Stuart Dormer chose the DVLA 03 Select Registration SD03 DAD – it represents his initials SD and that he’s a DAD …but no… Stuart chose this catchy number plate as a quirky way to advertise his driving school – Dormer’s Approved Driving.

Stuart from Stirling, who has just qualified as an approved driving instructor, is awaiting delivery of his new dual control Renault Clio. In the meantime, his sons encouraged him to consider a 03 personalised number, which went on sale in November 2002, to add a touch of individuality to his learner driver car. Currently, Stuart has seven students on his books, all of whom think the personalised registration is a great idea.

Stuart explained: "Learner drivers these days opt for distinctive schools when choosing who to learn to drive with – they want to drive good looking cars, so I thought a distinguishing personalised registration would be perfect to help me stand out from the crowd. The number I chose is novel and catchy so I hope people will recognise and remember it, helping to attract more students to my Driving School."
