Various iterations of the Bentley Continental GT Speed have been capable of 200mph for a while now, but it's a feat that has so far eluded the four-door Flying Spur. Which is quite a surprise, given the Flying Spur first appeared in 2005.
Looks a fitting environment for such a car
But if that inability to do 200mph in a saloon has been putting you off a Flying Spur, your prayers have been answered: the new W12 S has a top speed of 202mph. Phew.
Described as the "ultimate luxury performance sedan" by Wolfgang Durheimer, the Flying Spur W12 S has 635hp and 605lb ft from the trusty old W12 engine. On its way to that top speed, 62mph is passed in 4.5 seconds. Presumably very quietly.
The W12 S is said to offer "a more involving, agile drive" thanks to a unique set-up for the dampers and recalibrated stability control. Carbon ceramic brakes are offered as an option.
Marking out the Flying Spur flagship are a black radiator grille, black light surrounds, a rear diffuser (on a Bentley!) and new 'W12 S' badges. Standard wheels are the 21-inch seven-spoke items (in black) with new five-spoke rims of the same size optionally available. They can be specified in either black or a "dark tint".
It's black or carbon for the fascia so...
Best like dark colours too, because the theme continues inside. The fascia and waistrails are offered in either a black "engine-spin finish" or carbon fibre; best make use of the 17 colours available for the leather accents to brighten things up a tad. Note too the W12 S emblem in the headrests and treadplates, plus the standard three-spoke wheel that's an option on other Spurs.
Prices haven't yet been announced - as if you have to ask - but Bentley says that customer deliveries of the W12 S will commence at the end of this year. PH points forthcoming for the first owner to hit a genuine 200mph.
