After just a few weeks voting, Carl Greatrix's
Lego Caterham
project has already accrued over six thousand votes. It only needs 10,000 votes for Lego to investigate production viability and at the current rate that could be achieved by May. It has until December to gain the required support but wouldn't it be great to have it in front of Lego soon?
Anyway, there are two interesting developments with Carl's project now that he believes could make production too. The first is an entire redesign of the original Seven to make every part modular and interchangeable. As Carl says, it is a kit of a kit car! It's the green and yellow car seen in the photos, with component car parts built and then placed together. At least it should be that simple... Like a real Caterham it means that you can have a windscreen if you wish along with doors, roof and a spare wheel. Carl describes this as another "legitimate, workable" design, certainly not final but one to further enhance the appeal of the project.
The R500 and 620R are further evolutions of the Lego Caterham idea. They feature a working steering assembly and could again be possible once the 10,000 vote mark has been passed and pending Lego approval. And why wouldn't it approve? Get voting!
