Just when you thought you had heard of all the bizarre marketing collaborations! Morgan has now announced a limited edition of its EV3 with department store Selfridges, the UK 1909 Edition. With both companies founded in 1909, it all ties in very nicely; the official line is that Selfridges is "motoring ahead with its drive to put sustainability at the core of its business" and Morgan is about to productionise the
EV3
, so the timing is said to be ideal.
Because it's electric, see?
To the car. It's the same underneath as the EV3 shown at Goodwood last year, with 102hp from its electric motors, a range of between 120 and 150 miles and a top speed of 90mph. The batteries are encased by brass conductive cooling fins and those distinctive wheels are inspired by 1930s aero-engined race cars.
See also the "dramatic tail lift", a feature originally seen on the 3-Wheelers from the 1920s and reintroduced here. Each of the UK 1909 Editions are distinguished by a paint scheme of black with bronze detailing too, the latter a nod to Selfridges' Oxford Street shop front plaque.
The inside is marked out by a new dash, the introduction of a digital screen plus additional wood and aluminium, but that will arguably be less of a draw than the driving kit also included. The kit is "priced separately but can only be ordered with the car", so you really should get one. It includes George Cleverley driving shoes, a Belstaff waxed jacket, Linda Farrow driving goggles, an Alexander McQueen "ultra-chic skinny driving scarf", a Karl Donoghue helmet and more; all items are made in the UK, for full patriotic pride when you're motoring along to the pub.
The official launch of the EV3 UK 1909 Edition is at Selfridges Birmingham on October 1, followed by a London debut on November 1. The price? £52,500, with just 19 available. Production will start in November, with the first customer cars due in the spring. Like a lot of Morgans, expect this to be in demand - best of British to those trying to get one!
