One of the most memorable Geneva show unveilings of recent times was Luca di Montezemolo whipping the satin sheet off the previously unseen LaFerrari, boasting about it being the best car they'd ever made and then concluding (we paraphrase) 'and if you like it tough luck, because we've already sold them all - ciao!' Classic Ferrari showmanship but McLaren top brass was looking on, clearly inspired and McLaren's stand at this year's Geneva show - its biggest yet - also goes large on limited production specials you couldn't buy even if you turned up on the stand with a suitcase full of cash.
One that you can will be the promised
new Sport Series
the 570S
but there's no official information as yet. To illustrate the additional strands of the three-tier McLaren road car range MSO has been drafted in to create special versions of the Super Series - embodied by
the 675LT Spider
- and Ultimate Series. This is represented with a rather tasty looking P1 which, as you likely already know, ended production last year.
Leaving the slightly odd situation of us not being able to talk about the car you will be able to buy. But having all the info about the ones you can't.
Anyway, let's not be too indignant. Because the two MSO cars are, quite frankly, proper stunners.
500-car production run
is already accounted for this will - officially - be the 675LT's public debut. And the MSO example demonstrates some of the additional bling you can throw at it if you're one of the lucky ones on the list, including Ceramic Grey paint from the 'Defined' range of MSO shades, satin carbon for the retractable hardtop and 'visual carbon' for the aero body elements. There's also a neat F1 reference in the 24 carat gold heatshield surrounding the titanium exhaust.
Nice. But not as nice as the Lio Blue tinted lacquer applied to the hand-laid carbon fibre bodywork of the P1 built by MSO's Bespoke division. This also gets the F1-referencing gold heat shielding, carbon black Alcantara interior with various custom trimmings and a tip of the hat to the fine tastes of the lucky owner who specced it thus.
