If that old Casio simply isn't befitting of your Range Rover and you're unsure of which posh watch to set it off against, a new partnership with Swiss watchmaker Zenith can help. Announced last night after the Paris show press day and in suitably lavish style, the Zenith El Primero Range Rover costs £6,400 and is intended to complement vehicles from
Special Vehicle Operations
Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic
with its 550hp V8 and Sport SVR-influenced character.
The perfect accompaniment!
Tie-ups between watch brands and luxury carmakers are nothing new of course but the partnership is a reflection of Range Rover's expansion of its bespoke operations and attempt to head off the threat of vehicles like the
Bentley Bentayga
. Indeed, in the context of that car's optional dash-mounted £70K Breitling the Zenith seems something of a steal, combining the firm's El Primero movement with a matt grey aluminium casing and a perforated calfskin strap inspired by the SVAutobiography's upholstery.
Credibility for the partnership is provided in the accompanying press release, recounting the wearing of a Zenith chronograph by an explorer by the suitably sturdy name of Colonel John Blashford Snell when he used a pair of Range Rovers in an 18,000-mile trans America expedition back in 1971. Both companies will be grateful for his choice of timepiece, this being exactly the kind of luxury lifestyle partnership Range Rover needs to shout about. And the cheese? See the blog...
