You wait for one Jaguar XJ220 story and then two come along at once! Yes, off the back of the announcement Bridgestone (and now Pirelli!) are to reissue
updated OE spec rubber
for the XJ220 the timing of this Reader's Car Of The Week couldn't be better, given it focuses on a PHer who not only owns one but also uses it extensively.
RS_Phil is the lucky custodian of this British Racing Green example and, after being pushed by friends, has set up a thread describing living with the car and the odd modification he's made to make it more usable. If it looks familiar to a few of you that'll be because the car has previously appeared on Petrolicious where it was the subject of a detailed and beautifully photographed feature as part of a profile of XJ220 specialists Don Law Racing.
The car now has a healthy 680hp, with upgraded suspension, race-spec BBS three-piece wheels, upgraded brakes and some convenience modifications, such as dropping the seat height and a conversion to the boot to free up space for a carry-on case and laptop bag. Don't let the latter fool you into where RS_Phil's priorities lie though. When asked what a second gear rolling sprint is like he replies: "Traction. Lag. Boost. Stomach churning punch. Straight to jail speeds."
Phil tries his best to use the car whenever he is in the country, putting 10,000km in the last three years of ownership. His favourite moment so far? One sleepless night, he decided to take the XJ220 into the night and drive from Warwick to Lands End to watch the sunrise and have a cup of tea.
