Tom Tom, maker of portable satnav systems, is about to introduce Basil Fawlty to the ears of lost drivers.
How so? John Cleese's most famous character is about to become one of a choice of voices for the company's navigation systems -- although the frazzled Torquay hotelier, who once thrashed his Austin 1100 to within an inch of its life with a branch, is hardly the most obvious choice for a soothing navigator.
With Cleese signed up, Fawlty will tell you to turn right, left or leave a roundabout at the second exit, all for a one-off fee of around £7. Other voices available include Cockney wide boy Mickey and German psychiatrist Dr Felix. John Cleese is said to be the first celebrity to lend his voice to the service.
