33p/litre is just too much
The response of some US states to high fuel prices, where it's now around $3 per US gallon -- about 33p per litre -- has been to drop fuel taxes altogether.
According to one report, in Georgia, the governor has suspended the 7.5 cent tax lasts until the end of the month and set up a special legislative session to consider additional relief.
Other states looking to take action include New York, Michigan, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Washington and Maine.
States with a percentage sales tax in addition to a per-gallon tax have reportedly been reaping a windfall as a result of high petrol prices.
Now, does that set a good example?
