The Milltek Sport Tuner Grand Prix is back for 2006 and this time it’s bigger and better than ever. Hosted at Snetterton in Norfolk, over 65 teams have entered for the event which takes place on 26/27 August.
The Tuner GP is the only event of it’s kind that gives the UK’s top tuning firms the chance to demonstrate how fast their machines are, and settle a few scores in the process. It’s also the only time you’ll see modified hot hatches race head-to-head against specially prepared supercars such as the awesome Porsche 911 and formidable Lotus Exige.
Racing in different classes depending on engine size and drivetrain, competitors will be professionally timed around the fast and flowing 1.95 mile Snetterton circuit and have their best laps displayed for all to see in the pit lane. Last year’s GP featured everything from Renault Clios to Subaru Imprezas, although top honours eventually went to a Westfield XTR4 kit car. Vauxhall will be sending a Works team, as it did last year, to show off the performance of it’s Astra and Monaro VXR models, as well as a track prepared Astra sprint car.
Local manufacturer Lotus will also have a strong presence, promising an eclectic mix of four differently-powered Elises with Honda, supercharged Toyota and even bike motors in the back.
Not all cars are built for circuit use though, so Revett Straight will be transformed into a temporary drag strip for those looking to set the ultimate 0-60mph, 0-100mph and quarter-mile time.
The final of the UK Drift Championship will also be taking place around the Bomb Hole and Coram corners, with England’s top four drifters taking on their Scottish, Welsh and Irish counterparts in a festival of alternative motorsports.
Competitors will also have the chance to take friends and family on hot laps throughout the day, so if you’ve never had a ride in a supercar then here’s your chance.
