1998's record-holder
How much?

They say dedication’s what you need if you want to be a record breaker.
But here’s a chance to be a world record holder just by sitting on a sofa. The online sofa retailer www.sofa.com is building a road legal sofa which it reckons is can smash the existing Fastest Furniture Land Speed Record of 87mph, as listed in The Guinness Book of World Records.
All it needs is a driver brave enough, fast enough, daft enough.
Tell them how much money they found down the back of the office sofa. It’s in the glass jar (right). If you’re correct, or if you get closest, you’ll be one of ten invited to a weekend of racing on 9 and 10 September.
On Saturday you’ll race immensely powerful high performance Formula 2 Stock Cars in practice sessions and competitive heats and take part in other fun driving events at Northampton International Raceway. You’ll spend the night in a nearby hotel and on Sunday attend the final championship day at Oval Fest (www.ovalfest.co.uk). The winning driver will crank the Sofa up to almost 100mph round Rockingham’s 1.5 mile banked speedway track in front of a 30,000 strong crowd and, crucially, in front of observers from The Guinness Book of World Records.
Prize winners can bring a partner to lend support through Saturday’s qualifying heats, to stay overnight and to attend the World Record attempt on Sunday at Oval Fest.
