Caravans are among the best things about motoring in the UK, according to a survey by Auto Express.
Invented in the 1920s, the 500,000 beige-coloured objects that clog up the UK's roads are 19th in a list of Britain's top 20 greatest motoring ideas.
Not everyone agrees. One comment from a reader of the story published by The Scotsman was: "I think caravans are a major pain in the behind and should stick to motorways. At leat (sic) if I'm stuck behind a bus or a lorry, I am consoled by the fact they are actually doing something useful. I have never ever seen a caravan stop to let traffic pass (but then again, I've only been driving for 30 years)."
At the top of the best ideas list sits the pneumatic tyre, along with cat's eyes, split rear seats, self-cancelling indicators and the Mini, along with disc brakes, laminated windscreens and bumpers.
But in with those positive items come speed limits. Would they be included in a PHers' list?
