Cars aren't the worst: report
Cars are not the worst environmental enemy and they will not become an endangered species, argues a major new report published today by Autocar magazine.
The average family car produces far less CO2 than food consumption and home heating, and so has less impact on the global climate.
Charles Hallett, editor of Autocar, said: “If you’re a motorist you’ll know that mass car use has been identified as a major cause of global warming. We’re not underestimating the seriousness of the problem and cars need to get greener. But simply making transport the only environmental enemy is not going to tackle the problem effectively.’
Autocar also predicts that the future for cars is not bleak. Car makers are already working to tackle some of the problems and we’ll see the results in a short time. Cars will become lighter, smaller and have more efficient engines. Autocar predicts that the use of biofuels and hybrid technology will escalate in the next decade. We’ll also see increasing numbers of zero-emission fuel-cell vehicles.
