Yet another performance car club has launched. This one's based in London and is aimed, it said, "at people living or working in or around London who might not already have a car or want something special for the occasional weekend trip".
ClubGT currently has a Ferrari F355, Porsche 911 (996) GT3, Honda NSX, Lancia Delta Integrale and a Lotus Elise Sport 160. There is a similar points system to other car clubs. You pay a yearly membership fee in exchange for points which can then be exchanged for time in the club’s cars. The number of points required for each trip will not only depend on the class of car and the time of year, but also the number of miles covered.
This makes it fairer for club members who don’t rack up a huge number of miles, reckoned the company, so those who wouldn’t use all their mileage allowance in a typical club get better value. Costs will be comparable to other clubs when doing about 5,000 miles per year, said the company.
There is a one time joining fee of £250, and then £3,750 yearly membership (or £2,000 for half membership) which will get you anything from 5-50 days driving, depending on the cars you choose to drive and when you drive them. Members can expect to average about 4,000 miles over 30 days per year. The fee includes insurance, servicing, storage and valeting, and additional points can be bought at anytime.
ClubGT will be planning track days and driving training for its members, some will be compulsory if you have little experience of high powered cars. As the club expands, more cars will be purchased, these will likely include: a BMW M5, a Lamborghini Gallardo and a Ferrari 550 with a Noble or Jaguar XKR to follow.
“We wanted to give members the opportunity to drive some of the cars they may have missed out on. They are not all the latest incarnation of a marque, but are still very special cars, and the majority are not available from other clubs or hire companies,” said the company.
