Sports car maker Wiesmann is doing well. It's expanding its manufacturing capacity to meet demand, and construction works are in full swing at the moment, said the company.
Fifteen years after production of the sports cars started, the Wiesmann Roadster and GT models have proved popular in the UK as well as in their native Germany, reckoned Wiesmann, which has led to longer waiting times for customers -- up to several months for a new car.
As well as allowing it to make more cars faster, Wiesmann said its new location in Duelmen boasts customised premises for development, production, administration, sales and services as well as the customer centre. Wiesmann's tradmark, a gecko, will sit on top of the building (not a real one...).
The customer centre's where new owners of Wiesmann cars will be handed the keys to their new vehicles and from there, you'll be able to see cars being made. Inevitably, you'll be able to buy gewgaws too, including a Roadster or GT model car, a T-shirt, a cap, sets of suitcases, clothing, watches and so on. There'll be information about the cars and somewhere to eat too.
The new location meets today’s requirements and can be scaled for future developments, said the company.
Background
Early as in 2004, two managing partners, business graduate Friedhelm Wiesmann and graduate engineer Martin Wiesmann started to prepare for growth, including expanding the company's financial base to strengthen the company's position.
Three dormant and dedicated partners have aided business development via financial support, ideas and business contacts, said Wiesmann. This is particularly true for growing sales activities and the new construction, as well as the design and complementation of the product portfolio.
Friedhelm Wiesmann said: "With regard to all internationalisation as well as production diversification efforts, this allows us to expand the company on the basis of sound financial resources. Hence, the company remains true to the principle of expanding in a careful and financially affordable manner. This principle has been guiding us since we have founded our company in the first place, ensuring today’s thriving enterprise."
What does this mean in practice? For the first time in the company's history, 92 vehicles were manufactured in 2005, 16 of which were new Wiesmann GTs, while 2006's figures rose by 58 per cent to 100 Roadsters and 43 GTs. Wiesmann plans to make 100 Roadsters and 100 GTs this year.
