The Caparo T1 has had significant revisions in the engine room ahead of its just-announced public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year.
The ultra light supercar, said to weigh around 500kg, has had the capacity of its bespoke V8 raised from 2.4 to 3.5 litres. At the same time, the turbo chargers have been dropped in preference to natural aspiration. Caparo believes this new engine will develop at least 550bhp, with outputs up to 700 bhp a possibility. Simple maths tells us that the 1000bhp+ per ton power to weight ratio is more than just idle boasting.
Ben Scott-Geddes operations director at Caparo Vehicle Technologies and the car’s co-designer said: “The new engine now delivers both the performance and reliability we’re looking for in the T1, the two key factors vital to our customers when running this type of car.”
The T1 promises to be the closest thing to a F1 car that can be driven on the road, with exotic carbon fibre construction, extreme performance with suitable handling and yet seating for two.
Acquiring such bespoke F1-inspired technology won’t be cheap however: the price of the T1 will be £180,000 plus taxes, up from the £165,000 previously mentioned.
