Erdos has signed for Damax
The British F3 and GT championships kick off this bank holiday weekend with 33 starters on the F3 grid and three past champions lining up for GT honours.
Last year's GT Champion Tim Mullen is making a one-off appearance at Oulton Park. Mullen, who's competing in the FIA GT Championship with last year’s championship winning Scuderia Ecosse team, will be racing for Hector Lester in the Christians in Motorsport teams Ferrari 430 GT3.
“This is a one off but I’m really looking forward to the experience,” said Mullen. “The GT3 Ferrari 430 will be slightly different from the GT2. It should be really quick but I don’t get to try the car until the testing on Good Friday. After last year I’m really looking forward to getting back into British GT, even if it is just for the meeting at Oulton.”
2002 champion Tommy Erdos will also be returning to the series driving a Damax-entered Ascari, and the 2004 champion Jonathan Cocker will be racing one of Barwell’s three Aston Martin DBRS9s.
Qualifying for the GT Championship takes place at 13:15 on Saturday 7th April, with round one due to begin at 17:20 the same day and Round 2 at 14:00 on Monday 9th April. Qualifying for the F3 cars is also on Saturday, with race one at 11:15 on Monday and race two at 16:30.
The first PistonHeads fan forum will also take place this weekend. The Beechdean Motorsport Ferrari team will host the event on Monday at 12:45. Andrew Howard (team owner and driver), Aaron Scott (driver) and Dave Brewer (team manager) will be on hand to answer any questions and there will be a tub of Beechdean ice cream for each PH member attending, which we can confirm is rather good. First 20 people to contact us get the places (and the ice cream).
