Mario will be at Donington for GPlive
One of the greatest ever drivers in the history of motorsport will grace the GPlive festival at Donington Park next month.
Mario Andretti will be reunited over the 18-20 May with two very important Ferraris from his illustrious past. The gorgeous 1971 Ferrari 312B – arguably one of the most attractive F1 cars of all time – will leave its usual home in the Donington Grand Prix collection to have a run out in Andretti’s hands. It was a car of this type that Andretti notched up his first Grand prix win at Kyalami in 1971. It was to be the first of 12 and a world championship in 1978, along with victories in the Indy 500 and Daytona 500 races. Having competed in just about every type of racing – from dirt ovals to Le Mans – his current tally of victories stands at 111.
Andretti will also be reunited with the Ferrari 500 that he saw win the Italian Grand Prix with Alberto Ascari at the wheel in 1953. The young Mario climbed the fence at Monza to see the race and has often spoken of the effect seeing this car win had on him. It’ll be the first time he’s seen the car in 54 years.
The GP live festival is shaping up to be a superb event, with a wide and extensive range of grand prix cars scheduled to attend for both races and demonstrations over the weekend.
