Truvelo has a new speed camera. Cheers.
We’ve more grim speed camera news for this Friday morning, sadly.
Transport for London (TfL) and the London Safety Camera Partnership (LSCP) are currently conducting trials with camera manufacturer Truvelo of a sophisticated new camera that does not flash when triggered by a passing vehicle.
The trial is taking place at Gillette Corner, Isleworth on the A4 Great West Road.
As well as giving no sign that they have been triggered, the new cameras have a wireless link to Police to send digital images through; fines can be processed within minutes.
The cameras can be used in either forward or rear-facing configurations, taking a photo of the driver as well as the number plate.
Paul Smith, of the Safe Speed Road Safety Campaign Organisation, said: "The fact that you do not know you have been flashed adds more uncertainty to the driver's mind, and uncertainty is never a good thing for safety.”
"If it is to be a deterrent it is better to know where you stand. The camera is aimed at making lots of money for the manufacturer."
Although the cameras are working at present, no fines can be issued as they’ve not yet been approved by the Home Office.
