In keeping with this year’s Goodwood Festival theme of record breaking, the Bonhams auction on 22
June made over £6.1 million, becoming the most successful in the festival’s history.
The ‘star’ car was a 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C-2300 Spider, which fetched an incredible £1.4 million. The Alfa, equipped with a supercharged 2.3 litre eight cylinder engine, is capable of 115mph.
Other highlights include a 1974 Ferrari Dino 246GT Berlinetta (sold for £72,000), a 1964 AC Cobra Mark II (sold for £227,000) and a 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 (sold for £69,500). Racing cars also featured in the sale, including recent F1 cars such as the 1999 Williams Supertec Renault FW21. Once the steed of a certain A. Zanardi, it comes complete with a 14 race history and a screaming V10. Not bad for £40k.
