More frantic F3 action this weekend
After 10 rounds of the 2007 Lloyds TSB Insurance British F3 International Series Marko Asmer has taken six victories. The Estonian currently holds a commanding 51 point lead over Britain’s Sam Bird, but with 42 points on offer over a race weekend nothing can be counted as certain in British F3.
Six podiums in the last six races, including victory on the streets of Bucharest in May, has vaulted Formula Renault graduate Sam Bird up the championship table in his rookie season. Bird holds a six point advantage over his Carlin Motorsport team mate Maro Engel, the German driver spectacularly returning to form at Monza with two poles, a win and a second place behind Asmer in round 10.
Ireland ’s Niall Breen is the other race winner in 2007 and the young driver from Dundalk has taken to Formula 3 with ease and should be a factor this weekend.
Engel will be after Asmer again
Other contenders for the top step of the podium include Raikkonen Robertson Racing’s Stephen Jelley, Jonathan Kennard and Atte Mustonen, all of whom have proven they are capable of posting fastest race time and pole positions - they ‘just’ need to convert their pace into a race winning performance.
In the National Class the ding dong battle for the championship lead between Sergio Perez and ‘Frankie’ Cheng continued at Monza, with the Mexican taking a clean sweep of pole positions, fastest laps and race wins. Expect more battles between the two at Brands Hatch this weekend.
Round 11 is due to get underway at 11:10 on Sunday 15th July with Round 12 at 16:00 the same afternoon.
