CLARKSON FOR PRIME MINISTER

15,000 have already signed petition

Would you let this man run the country?
Would you let this man run the country?
Jeremy Clarkson may have been joking when he suggested there should be a minimum speed limit on motorways, but it looks like one or two people have taken him seriously.

Almost 15,000 people have signed a petition on Downing Street’s website to make the straight-talking Top Gear presenter Prime Minister. The petition closes on 14 April 2008, so there's still plenty of time to sign up (if you agree with his policies on blowing up caravans and banning speed cameras).

Joseph Dark, the petition’s creator says: “Jezza is a legend and deserves to run the country.”

We're not quite sure where he'd sit on education or the environment, but given the lack of characterful MPs on offer in the House today, isn't he worth a go?
