Indian car group Mahindra are conducting due diligence on Jaguar and Land Rover- currently offered for sale by Ford.
Mahindra have said that they are more interested in Land Rover than they are with Jaguar. However Ford plans to bundle the two together so they won't be able to buy just Land Rover, and they may even be contracted to keeping Jaguar for an agreed time after the sale.
So, your new Jaguar or Range Rover may well be Indian made. We know the cost of manufacturing the cars will be cheaper there, so will we see a reduction in the showroom price? More importantly how will the quality fare as Mahindra are best known for their utility and farm vehicles.
Other interested parties are Tata Motors of India and private equity group TPG Capital.
