Volvo (who else) has announced a new device designed to prevent drink driving, and it certainly seems like a good idea.
It is a wireless breathalyser which connects to your car and will disable the engine if the legal limit of blood-alcohol is exceeded. So, before you head off you'll need to blow into the device, if it detects alcohol then the car will not start- but maybe the navigation will advise you of the quickest walk to a kebab shop.
Due to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, this will be the first integrated breathalyser on the market. It's reported that one in three accident deaths in the UK is alcohol-related prompting Volvo to predict healthy sales.
It will be available as an accessory in the S80,V70 and XC70 early next year and across the range by the end of 2008.
