The British Formula 3 Championship is nearly over, and the drivers will be doing all they can to finish in the points and advance their careers. Good things can come from winning the F3 championship, as Ayrton Senna and Sir Jackie Stewart can testify.
This year's title looks sure to go to Marko Asmer of Estonia, who is 72 points clear of Germany's Maro Engel. However, Engel is a tenacious driver, advancing from 15th to 3rd in his last race, and if Asmer doesn't beat him in the first race of the weekend, he has a chance.
In the National Class, Mexican Sergio Perez is one to watch. On unfamiliar circuits, he has won 11 times, been on pole 12 times, and had 9 fastest laps. He looks set to see off his rivals and take the National Class title on Saturday.
Over the same weekend, the British GT Championship will be at Croft, after a season of spectacularly close racing. The title is still wide open, with the four front-runners vying for success in the remaining four races. After the Thruxton rounds, the bio-fuelled Aston Martin DBRS9 of John Cocker and Paul Drayson holds a slim lead over the Dodge Viper of Alex Mortimer and Bradley Ellis.
However, the Ferraris have been showing pace recently, so anything could happen at the weekend. British GT has been the closest championship in the UK this season, so expect a dramatic finale.
The PistonHeads Fan Forum will take place at 10.30 on Sunday morning, with two Grid Walk passes up for grabs. The MackintoshPlansMotorsport Lotus Exige will be there, and the people who ask the best question, as judged by the team, win the passes. The Q&A session will also feature the team's drivers, George Mackintosh and Alistair MacKinnon.
