Truckers on motorways often receive bad press, sometimes justified, sometimes not, but today the warnings become official.
Today the Freight Transport Association has issued a warning about the large number of left hand drive trucks on British roads. They claim that LHD HGVs account for over 1000 incidents of side-swiping each year. The drivers of such vehicles are more likely to pull out on cars as their mirrors have a large blind spot meaning middle lane traffic alongside can't always be seen.
One in seven HGVs on our roads are foreign-registered, and the number is increasing all the time. The RAC Foundation has advised drivers to check lorry numberplates before overtaking, and not to linger alongside if they are registered abroad.
