Existing only in shadow - STI goes MiB
So far we’ve had a plentiful supply of technical rumours, seen the WRC concept at Frankfurt and pored over snaps and videos of mules caught lapping the Nürburgring, but only now has Subaru released the first teaser shot of the forthcoming Impreza STI.
Due for launch at next month’s Tokyo show, this image confirms that the car will remain quite faithful to the rally concept unveiled by Petter Solberg in Germany.
Subaru hasn’t released any official technical details about the car, and obviously a mostly-obscured picture doesn’t tell us a lot, but even from this image the signs are hopeful that the “distinctive” look of the standard car has at least been obscured by wings and scoops.
It helps even more if have a bit of a play with some well-known photo manipulation software, which reveals a sizeable, angular rear wing similar in style to the Civic Type-R’s, but mounted at roof level. Also exposed is a much deeper front bumper than the frumpy standard car's, pumped-up blistered arches and, of course, the trademark bonnet scoop.
