Posh Toyota. That's what we all thought when the Lexus brand was launched upon us in the early 90's. Who would have thought we'd actually want one. Not me for one, but turned out the LS was a great car, so great that it was compared to the S Class Benz.
Underneath the hood was a 4.0 V8 producing 250bhp mated to a smooth auto and loaded with more kit than Dixons, no really, you just couldn't fit in any more features. Gold plated badges? Not a problem sir, just tick this box. This car had luxury not seen before, and on the test drive you could be forgiven for trying to start the already running engine as tickover was near silent.
Nowadays Lexus has grown into a brand to aspire to, but the early LS has suffered a little bit. These days you're more likely to see one outside your local Ritzy nightclub waiting to carry you and your drunken mates home rather than outside the Ritz waiting for the CEO to finish a power lunch.
That doesn't mean it's a bad car, oh no. These old barges go on for ever and usually all the toys continue to work too. They still waft you around in quiet comfort and to those who know- it still has some class.
£850- not a lot in anyone's book. But that price buys you this 1992 LS. It's done 195,000 miles but had full history up to 179,000. It has every option known to man, is taxed until Feb next year and the V8 is, according to the seller, mechanically excellent. The MOT has expired though, so make of that what you will.
