Mitsubishi have released the first official pictures of the new EVO X and it looks fantastic.
The new model has a new 2.0, 4 cylinder 16 valve DOHC MIVEC engine that is 12 kg lighter than in the previous model thanks to a die- cast aluminium cylinder block, head cover and chain case. It's more powerful too with 295bhp and over 300 lb-ft of torque.
It also comes with a new Twin- Clutch SST 6 speed automated manual, but don't worry there is still the option of a 5 speed manual too. That said, we hear the new gearbox has been well received when the car was tested around the Nurburgring and features a dual automated clutch system that delivers fast shifting and also helps fuel economy- now that's not something normally associated with an Evo.
The Evo X also features S-AWC vehicle dynamic control system which regulates drive torque and braking force at each wheel, reading driver intent and adapting the car to suit. It has three modes TARMAC for dry paved surfaces, GRAVEL for wet or unmade surfaces and SNOW for er, snow.
Braking comes from 18 inch front and 17 inch rear Brembo vented discs, suspension is Mac Pherson strut at the front and multi link at the rear the same as its predecessor, but the X has a wider track and greater stiffness than the previous incarnation.
Interior quality has been improved, with the usual hardcore seats being supplied by Recaro, a small diameter steering wheel with the S-AWC mode selector on the left spoke.
But look at it, it looks great especially against the current Impreza. Enjoy.
