Brace yourselves. According to an RAC Foundation and Trafficmaster report, today, Friday 19
October, is officially the day when we can expect the worst traffic congestion of the year.
While you might think that Bank Holidays or the rush to get to the in-laws at Christmas might be responsible for the biggest traffic snarl-ups, the gong goes to today because of a combination of congestion un-friendly factors.
These include darker weather encouraging more drivers to use major roads, a high level of Friday night commuters and commercial traffic, a rise in accidents, and the fact that many schools have just broken up for half term.

If you’re out and about on the roads, the report has also identified the western side of the M25 as being the most likely section of road to grind to a halt as Londoners escape the big smoke and holidaymakers head to Heathrow.
This section of road has just taken the top spot in the reports, usurping the roadwork-strewn section of the M1 in Hertfordshire which has a higher average speed limit than this time in 2006.
