Rules are made to be broken, just not these
A well-known car insurer – the one with the agreeable talking, nodding dog – has just completed a survey of how well drivers know the new highway code.
The revised document came out three weeks ago, but it would seem that the new regulations have passed many motorists by, with the survey finding 37% of drivers were completely unaware that the code had been updated.
Perhaps just as concerning are the number of drivers who admit to breaking rules wilfully, with changing CDs or radio stations top of the list of sins with 75% of those surveyed breaking this new rule. Also featuring highly were eating food, drinking (soft drinks we hope), and playing loud music.
The survey also asked those in the passenger seat what makes them most nervous, with 77% of those surveyed identifying drivers who read maps while behind the wheel being the most commonly complained about vice.
Arguing with other road users comes second, with 65%, while dealing with rowdy kids completes the top three with 61%.
