It's big, it's square and it looks kinda angry - it's the new VW space up!
Continuing the theme of useless exclamation marks and a total disregard for capital letters the space up! is hot on heels of little brother up!, which was unveiled as a concept at the Frankfurt motor show last month.
The space up!, launched at the Tokyo motor show, is a bigger version with you guessed it: more space.
The space up! features four individual seats, three of which can either be folded or removed completely to allow for up to 1,005 litres of luggage space.
In the space up! the wheelbase is extended to 2,560 mm to improve interior space while each of the 18" wheels is pushed as far into each corner of the vehicle as possible.
Round the back there is Mini Clubman-style side hinging rear doors with a VW badge in the middle.
The rear has a translucent panel into which are set the car's LED brake lights.
The feature that got enthusiasts announcing a second coming of the original Beetle is the small compartment at the rear for an engine - be it petrol, diesel or electric.
The concept also has a functional feel that harks back to the honest roots of the Beetle.
The space up! concept was penned by a team led by Chief Designer of the Volkswagen Group, Walter de Silva.
He said: 'The space up! offers maximum space on the smallest of platforms. Despite the character of the car we have avoided superfluous gimmicks of any kind. This has created a very confident design.'
A road-going version of the space up! is expected before the end of the decade.
