Not a hairdresser in sight
The Audi TT range has always lacked an ultimate high-performance model but this could be it – the RS.
Caught lapping the Nürburgring, this S-Line kitted TT carries clues that Audi is serious about making a TT that could take on Porsche’s Cayman and even push it towards Carrera 4 territory.
Behind what look like 19” ‘7-arm-double-spoke’ TT alloys are a large set of brake discs that suggest Audi is testing ceramic items either as an option or even standard on the range topper.
The front bumper has gaping vents in place of fog lights to give better cooling.
Around the back the jutting exhaust pipes suggest the rear bumper will be extended and will likely carry a diffuser.
The oval pipes themselves are similar in look to those on the RS6 and RS4 models and the TT RS is likely to carry this trademark into production.
Inside is what looks like a roll cage which we would like to see make it onto the options list for track days.
Engine-wise it is rumoured Audi will go with a single or even twin-turbocharged version of the five-cylinder 2.5 found in the US Jetta.
Peak power should be around 350bhp.
Although the TT RS was originally rumoured to hit the showrooms this year a 2009 launch is more likely.
