New graphics are biggest clue to new car
Those in the market for ultra-rare Italian prototypes that can’t be used on the road rejoice – Ferrari has unveiled the new FXX evolution.
The FXX programme will roll on for another two years thanks to the new evolution kit developed with the help of Client Test-Drivers.
The evolution model will not only be faster but will have better handling, thanks to improved aerodynamics and running gear.
Of course no Ferrari launch would be complete without name-dropping a certain German, so the FXX evolution is naturally developed with the ‘invaluable support of Michael Schumacher’.
The car has also been developed thanks to readings taken over the 16,500 kilometres of tests carried out in 2006 and the 18,500 kilometres covered in 2007.
The evolution can be identified by a new livery and a different rear wing.
The FXX's 6262 cc V12 engine can now punch out around 860 bhp at 9500 rpm.
Gearshifting is now quicker and the gear ratios have been adapted to make use of the extra 1000 rpm now delivered by the engine.
All these modifications result in a Fiorano lap time of less than 1'16'' – two seconds quicker than the original.
The FXX’s traction control has been modified and is now less invasive and even the special 19" Bridgestone tyres now last longer.
From next year onwards it will be possible for drivers to have an extra two cameras mounted on their car in addition to a rear-facing one.
As in 2006/2007, the cars will be backed up at each event by a 15-member official team made up of engineers, electronics experts and mechanics providing complete assistance to clients.
