The beginning of a new era?
Alfa Romeo is to switch its model line-up to rear-wheel drive, according to reports.
The company is said to be making the move to better challenge the likes of BMW and Mercedes.
Exactly how much of Alfa’s range will be rear-drive remains to be seen but any models will be welcomed by fans of oversteer.
Renzo Barbirato, Alfa Romeo’s marketing director, reportedly revealed that the rear-drive 8C Competizione will herald the beginning of a range of rear-wheel drive models from the Italian marque.
Alfa’s new executive saloon, the 169, is expected by the end of 2009 and is said to be driven by the rear wheels.
The only model that is believed to be avoiding rear-drive is the Mini challenger, the Junior, due to cost concerns.
