Just like a retired boxer looking for one last title fight, the Mercedes SL jumped into the ‘Ring this week to flex its new muscles
This looks likely to be the SL AMG Black Series, a pumped-up version of the popular roadster.
Sporting massively flared wheel arches and mammoth power it will be the most focused SL yet.
The SLK and CLK have already been given the Black Series treatment, the new range of track-biased cars showing a darker side of AMG.
The SL is likely to have a fixed roof, made from carbon fibre, giving a lower centre of gravity.
The amount of power the car will produce is as yet unclear, although it will definitely be a lot.
A twin-turbo V8 or even V12 could be on the cards driving through the huge rear tyres.
The only worry Mercedes would have is if the SL Black Series, likely to cost the far side of £150,000, would take too many sales from the Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR.
