Hopefully it'll drive as well as it looks
While the predominant theme at the Las Vegas SEMA show seems to be just how ridiculous you can make already pretty outlandish cars – Ford’s trucks in particular spring to mind – Hyundai has taken the opportunity to reveal some teaser images of an interesting coupe concept it will show at next month’s Las Vegas auto show.
Based on the US-market Genesis saloon, which goes on sale in the US in spring next year and will probably be badged i50 when it arrives on our shores, this rear-wheel drive concept is touted as a successor to the existing front drive Coupe.
The idea of a Hyundai coupe is something that we are all now familiar with, but given the Korean manufacturer’s current success and obvious ambition, we reckon that this new car might be a genuine bargain competitor for something like the Nissan 350Z - expect both coupe and convertible versions of this new car.
There’s no real word yet on engines, transmissions or prices, but hopefully all will become clearer when the real-life concept is unveiled on November 14th.
As with many concepts, this Coupe sketch also hints at future design direction for Hyundai, and the signs look good as edgy, flame-surface-alike lines attempts erase the memory of its cheap shopping trolley roots.
However, there’s one thing we don’t understand: Hyundai is supposed to be the sober, grown-up brand, while stable mate Kia lures the sporty, youth-oriented end of the market. Perhaps there’s an even tastier Kia Coupe waiting in the wings?
