Summer holiday 2009 taken care of
The Middle East is quickly carving out a reputation for providing the most excessive, spectacular and er... tasteful buildings in the world.
The first foundation stone has just been laid in yet another dramatic construction project: The Ferrari World Theme Park in Abu Dhabi.
As part of the inauguration proceedings, a time capsule was buried. In celebration of Ferrari’s 60th anniversary, the capsule contains a conrod and piston from the F2007 championship-winning F1 car, and an artist’s impression of what the finished theme park should look like. The box will be re-opened on Ferrari’s 100th birthday in 2047.
Ferrari World will bring what Ferrari calls “a unique oasis of discovery, hospitality and beauty” when it opens to the public in 2009.
There will be 24 attractions at the 250,000 square metre site, including the usual roller coasters and family-friendly activities.
Best of all, however, the site is also home to the Abu Dhabi grand prix track, and driving courses will be available as a star attraction.
