Thieves stole a Falcon similar to this
Thieves spent hours moving top-end cars, including a Rolls Royce, so they could steal what they came to get – an old Ford Falcon.
But they weren’t as dozy as they sound, because the Falcon was in fact a rare vintage example worth £265,000.
The red 1971 Phase III GT HO had been stored at a workshop in Osborne Park, Western Australia, for around 12 months.
Only 300 of this particular Falcon were ever made.
The car is said to belong to the repair shop owner and he is not thought to have it insured for the amount it is worth.
Police said the thieves were well organised and they had broken into J & M Caporale Auto Body Repairs through a side door, then moving a Rolls Royce Stretch Limousine, a late model Holden GTS Monaro valued at £45,000 and a Honda Odyssey to get the Ford Falcon out of the building.
Detective Senior Sergeant Neville Dockery said the thieves were well organised.
'Someone spent considerable time to shift a number of other vehicles, also very expensive vehicles in order to steal this particular car,' he said.
'It's a collector's item. It will be very hard to sell in Australia and we suspect it will be tucked away in a shed somewhere."
'We suspect this vehicle is in a back shed laying low somewhere - it could be repainted then sold in the Eastern States.
‘It’s unlikely they would change the appearance of the vehicle very much and we have alerted our Eastern States counterparts.’
